Quick Post

I know I haven't updated since a million and one years ago, but I just have to post this. As many know, I am a fan of American Idol, but there aren't any singers recently who made me sit up and listen, until David Archuleta. He is only 17 years old. He has the looks, the voice, the appeal, basically the whole package. And I think he is the only one who had the audience screaming all the way even before he went on stage to sing.

This is only the Hollywood week to choose the top 12. Just before you click play on the video, the surrounding should be quiet, make sure your speakers are volumed up, or plug in your earphones.

The song, Imagine, by John Lennon.

Enjoy!!

Of Flowers, Chocolates and Balloons

It's Valentine's Day again. For some couples, it's the day where they celebrate their love for each other. While for others, this shouldn't be a special day at all as it's just some commercial gimmicks to earn the bucks out of pockets. Everyday should be Valentine's day for them.

Well for me, I have been single for almost 25 years. It's just another day for me. Just that I 'll see more people carrying bouquet of flowers, gifts and even balloons. The owners of flower and gift shops must be grinning widely.

Anyway thanks to all who smsed me today and to Kat for the effort you have put in to make the nice cards for some of us.

I have not asked anyone out before, maybe because I never dared to. But if some nice gal would ask me on a date, I would seriously consider. And I am darn SERIOUS.

I think I better stick to dearest lecture notes and assignments for now.

Post Chinese New Year Withdrawal Syndrome

Fun's over. Now its the time to really start working, and I can foresee the loads of work coming, in which some of them has already lying impatiently on my desk.

Anyway, the Lunar New Year has been the same as the previous years, where New Year's eve night was reunion dinner at home, first day was mainly when my paternal relatives first gathered at my house and we then proceeded to some of my grandaunts', granduncles', uncles' and aunties' houses. Yes, it was never an easy task, and after steamboat (which was already 1030 pm) at my aunt's house, I was already so tired, but there's the second day to come.

The second day morning was visit by my granduncle and grandaunt from my paternal family, then we proceed to another grandaunt's place. After all which, me and my parents went to visit my maternal grandpa at the home, where most of my aunties, uncles and cousins were there. Went home after that to have lunch, then visit by my dad's cousins at my house. Then again, we went to my mum's sister at tampines where all my maternal relatives gathered for steamboat and yu sheng.

I used to dread chinese new year because, its where all the aunties will come to ask if you have a girlfriend, are you still in NS, studying or when I am graduating, in which the last question was asked the most often. But somehow, I think I have improved my socializing skills and able to engage in conversations quite smoothly. And from there, I actually learnt more about my relatives. Well, now at least I know that one of my dad's cousin's wife is actually working for WorlyParson, a construction company which hire chemical engineer like me. So she told me to write in if I am interested and hopefully, I can get a job. But the thing that it's on a contractual basis.

Anyway, I just came home from another lunch with my grandaunts, granduncles, grandma and my parents, where I am the only one of my age. But I didn't mind that much, because there's free GOOD food, and somehow, I able to entertain myself my folding chopsticks paper wrapper and turn it into a paper star. And I was able to catch some Dragon Dance troop performing, engaged by the restaurant we had lunch at.

To date, I had 3 rounds of yu sheng, 2 rounds of steamboat, many servings of New Year goodies. Hmmm, i think the next thing is a well planned out diet and fitness routine.

Lunar New Year's Eve

Glad that I had the fortune to stay at home without having to school on CNY eve, though I have some tutorials assignment to do. Anyway, I am just happy I don't have to travel all the way to school. Really can feel the new year mood after Dad decorated the house with red new year cards and some chinese decorations. Tonight will be the usual 'tuan yuan fan' or reunion dinner with my family, and tomorrow, my house will be crowded with relatives. CNY goodies will never be missed, and I guess I will just put another kilo or 2. Guess i need to have some serious diet and weight losing plan after the new year.

Just before the clock strikes 12 and we welcome the new year with arms wide open (and of course for the ang baos as well), I'd like to wish everyone 恭喜发财, 万事如意,身体健康,财源广进, 鼠年行大运!

冬天已随冬风走
春节亦于春光来

PS: I used to take part a 春联 writing competition back in secondary school and won a consolation prize. But I can't remember what exactly I have written. This is something new. Haha!!

Somehow

Somehow, I have this feeling that I am slowly drowning myself in another episode of depressed mood. Maybe depressed sounds slightly strong, but the thing is, I do not have the zest and energy I used to have to do stuff. Maybe I see no purpose? I have been putting away my readings I need to do, my FYP poster's not even half done, watching too much of TV, giving too much attention to the laptop and the Internet.

It's like that a slight part of me asking the rest of me to give up, and just ignore the things around.

I want to do well this semester, but somehow I think I really lack the energy to do so.

And apart from my studies, I also have no energy to do anything else. My mind just wonders by itself to places I don't even know where.

Haiz, who gives a damn anyway.

When There Was No TV and the Internet

I realized during the week, I haven't had the mood to blog anything. Maybe there isn't anything interesting happening enough to blog.

Last Wednesday, when I was trying to call back home, there wasn't any answer to the call, even after I tried to call home in the evening. When I called my mum's phone, I found out that due to some road work at Bedok North road and the workers accidentally cut off the cables, the telephone and TV cable lines were disrupted. So when I reached home, there's no TV, no internet and no phone. I had an early night that evening. It's only then I realized how our lives are controlled by TV and the internet, without which we were so lost and didn't know what to do. But then, if there aren't such technological advancement, maybe we would have more time to do our work, and to spend more time talking and knowing more about our family members. Well, I chose to sleep early.

Just got back from dinner and KTV session at Katong with my NUS class people. Dinner was settled at Aston's, the nice and cheap Western food along Katong. After which, we headed to Katong Shopping Centre for the cheap KTV session. Well, I only spent 4.50 for a 3 hour session, and they had rather new songs. But reservations must be made in advance because even when we left at 11pm, there were people waiting for their rooms.

Chinese New Year's coming and the best part of this festive season, for me, is the food.

A diet and healthy plan should be on the way after the new year.
